- Curator's comments
- Smaller version of Irish 8th - 9th century pseudo-penannular brooch purchased
by B.M. in 1888 from sale of Lord Londesborough's collection. History of L's brooch prior to acquisition by B.M. unrecorded, but copies known, from contemporary puplications, to have been in production by about 1871, by various Dublin jewellers. Finding of original must pre-date 1871. Study of history of copies likely to reveal further documentary evidence for history of original prior to 1888.
