- Curator's comments
- This wire fragment is one of a group of 135 recovered from ploughsoil over a period of time (1990,0304.1-135). The majority of the fragments consist of two strands of circular-sectioned gold and silver alloy wire twisted together. In a few instances, only one of the twisted strands remains. These short lengths of twisted wire appear to have been cut from the neck ring of a torc (compare 1985,1204.1, a torc terminal, also from Bawsey). This may have been part of the process of recycling the metal. Similar cut wire fragments have been found at Snettisham (1989,1201.1-2; 1991,0602.1-7).
