- Description
-
Iron ploughshare. Apart from a little chipping at the mouth the socket is complete. Throughout most of its length the flanges are brought close together, and the socket interior has a regular rectangular cross-section. The bar was also well made and is in good condition, the original surface being visible over most of its length. At the top it is of crisp rectangular cross-section, but below the mid-point the upper face and the sides are curved giving a plano-convex cross-section. Viewing the upper face of the bar with the tip downwards there is a slight but definite asymmetry apparently caused by wear on the right hand side starting about 5cm above the tip. Such wear could have been produced if the plough was consistently tilted to the right.
