- Curator's comments
- In 2004, this figure of Pluto with Cerberus was re-attributed to Chelsea, perhaps based on the triangle mark, having been formerly classified as Derby porcelain. The same model at the Victoria and Albert Museum, 414:142-1885, is attributed to Derby, c. 1752-1755, and the modeler Agostino Carlini. It is smaller than the British Museum example, because the figure has slightly slumped forward in the firing. The V&A model was formerly published as Bow porcelain, but reattributed to Derby in J.V.G. Mallet, 'Agostino Carlini and Dry-Edge Derby', in Tom Walford and Hilary Young, 'British Ceramic Design, 1600-2002', 2003, p.52, fig. 18.
