Four earthenware tiles, dust-pressed body, painted in red lustre on a white ground and glazed all over, each tile featuring a fabulous beast: a) a dog-like beast holding a simple tail in its mouth b) a dog-like beast holding in its mouth a tail with a tufted end c) a dog-like beast whose tail turns into a foliate branch encircling its body and d) a snake-like dragon with a long neck. Maker's mark on reverse.

- The design of tile 'c' was reversed and produced on a plate made by Maw, see RJM, 'Lustres from Lesser Mortals', Glazed Expressions, Summer 1985, pp. 6-7. It is also found on plates and tiles made by both Maw and J. C. Edwards; for an illustration of c1890 tile by J. C. Edwards similar to tile 'c', held by the Victoria and Albert Museum, see J. Barnard, 'Victorian Ceramic Tiles', fig. 54.
