- Text from catalogue of the Hull Grundy Gift (Gere et al 1984) no 876:
The Milanese Count Caprara commissioned a portrait of Napoleon from Berini to celebrate the Emperor's coronation as King of Italy in 1805. Berini studied with Giovanni Pichler in Rome before going to Milan where he worked for Count Caprara and the famous patron and collector Count Sommariva. (Charlotte Gere)
