- Text from the Catalogue of the Hull Grundy Gift (Gere et al 1984) no. 685:
This locket-case comes from the same workshop as the set of brooch and earrings in the Victoria and Albert Museum (see Bury 1982, p. 120: Case 20, Board A, no. 13, ill. on p. 130.

Additions and corrections to original catalogue entry made by Judy Rudoe.
In the catalogue entry from the V&A catalogue cited above, Harry Emanuel is suggested as the maker of the set of Locket brooch and earrings en suite with this locket (M.2a&b-1965). See also Bury 1991, vol. II, pl. 309, p. 581. The suggestion of Harry Emanuel as maker is maintained on the Museum’s website (with a suggested date span of 1855–73), but is not pursued in Shirley Bury’s book; it is discussed in the context of a fashion for long earrings in the early 1870s, providing the basis for a date of 1870.
