- Text from catalogue of the Hull Grundy Gift (Gere et al 1984) no 179:
Turned ivory is rarely more thinly cut than on this box, the lid of which is almost 'paper thin' except in the area of high relief. It is an example of great virtuosity. (Charlotte Gere).
The identification of Jupiter as an eagle drinking wine from Hebe was made by Jennifer Montagu - J. Rudoe annotaion in HG catalogue.
