Watch movement plate.
Plate:
Plain brass back plate designed for a 3/4-plate movement, with a large curved cut-out which provides clearance for the escapement. The number 10203 is written in ink on the back. On the inside there is a recess for the centre wheel and on the outside a recess for the barrel ratchet wheel and click.
Jewelling: There are jewelled bearings for the centre, third and fourth wheels, the jewels bombé in screwed settings.
Winding System: A winding wheel is mounted on a steel shifting carriage which has two positions, for winding and hand setting, determined by two levers operated by a push-piece.
Dimensions: diameter 47.8 mm.
Provenance: Presented by A. G. M. Clark in 1968.
Notes:
This plate is similar in all respects to the back plate of the unfinished ebauch described in Cat. no. 369 (registration no. 1968,0403.50) except that this one is marginally smaller in size and has jewelled bearings. Both back plates are fitted with the same form of hand setting mechanism although they differ in small details.
