- Description
-
Gold plated penannular ring with tin alloy core and punched decoration. The circular body is circular in cross-section and it is slightly thinner at the ends rather than in the middle. The ring has parallel squared flat endings facing each other. The gold foil would have been wrapped around the white metal core, and burnished into position. Gold plating covers the whole of the core with only two small pieces of foil missed and there is a seam on the inner curved surface. There are also many radial crease lines where the gold foil has folded in the same region. The decoration consist of five rows of round punch marks on each side, while the outer ends are decorated with a pattern of parallel lines that enclose cross-hatch patterns. Patterns were probably punched after the foil was wrapped around and burnished onto the core.
