SILVER-CASED VERGE WATCH.
Going barrel; mainspring with geared stop-work set-up, the pinion missing. Silver set-up indicator disc.
Verge escapement, steel 3-arm balance with chamfered arms.
Four wheel going train, centre wheel solid, the third and contrate wheels with three crossings.
Rivetted potence and counter-potence. Pierced foliate balance cock with very small foot.
Spiral balance spring; geared regulator with capstan adjuster mounted between the plates.
Silver champlevé dial with Roman numerals I-XII and lozenge half-hour marks winding hole through the XII numeral. Central disc with cherubs holding garlands; two cartouches.
Single silver case (either later or modified).

- Curator's comments
- This watch has the numbers 104 on the pillar plate and barrel, and the number 0440 (1440) on the back of the central part of the dial.
The watch seems to have been made too early to be no 104 in the Tompion series and it has been suggested that it was either sold some years after it was made, or perhaps returned to Tompion and resold (and numbered at this time). The number on the back of the dial might refer to later work on the watch.
