SILVER PAIR CASES AND DIAL OF A VERGE WATCH.

MOVEMENT:

DIAL:
Oval silver dial with four lugs around the perimeter to engage in recesses in the case band. Engraved silver chapter-ring with Roman hour numerals I-XII and arrow-head half-hour marks surrounding a quarter-circle. In the central recess in the back, the brass c-spring for the case-catch. The hand is now missing.

CASES:
Plain silver inner case with a hinged bezel and rotating cover on the back for the winding hole. The open bezel has a screwed-on gilt-brass ring to retain the glass. The screws and glass are now missing, the ring now loose in the case. Silver pendant with loose ring. There is a small hole in the finial position, the finial now missing.
Oval plain silver outer case with silver hinge and silver closing hook. Holes at top and bottom for the pendant and finial of the inner case.

- The lack of any steel parts in the case, i.e. the screws for the glazing ring, the finial and the case-catch bolt suggest that the watch was either buried in the ground or submersed in water for a long period, causing all the steel parts to rust away. [DRT:1.92]
