A hemispherical silver cover produced bespoke to fit on top of the flanged bowl with upstand (1946,1007.11). the cover has a circular upstanding rim on top, which forms a recess into which has been attached a solid silver gilt figure in the form of a triton. The cover has foliate decoration covering approximately two-thirds of its body and a lower figurative frieze with Bacchic masks and individual scenes of centaurs battling wild beasts: the first shows a lion leaping towards a centaur holding a club, flanked by a bust of Silenus on the left and Pan on the right; the second a centaur confronting a boar; the third a boar chasing a centaur flanked by the bust of a maenad on the left and a satyr on the right; the fourth a leopard confronting a centaur with rock raised above his head; the fifth with a lioness (?) leaping towards a centaur, flanked by a bust of a maenad on the left and a bust of Bacchus on the right; the sixth a male lion confronting a centaur. The frieze is enclosed above and below by lines of beads and ovolo.
