Mineralised fragments of a wooden sword-sheath or scabbard, in situ on the blade of sword 1939,1010.95. The scabbard comprises a layer of willow or poplar wood, with remains of an animal-fur lining of indeterminate species. The upper part of the scabbard carries the remains of a linen braid binding, wrapped around the scabbard down to the depressions for scabbard bosses 1939,1010.26-27, with another wrapped section below the depressions moving upwards towards them. A tapering piece of wood of indeterminate function extends down the blade from the scabbard mouth for a length of 184mm. Traces of a coarser textile and impressions of two braid coils are visible on the back of the sword scabbard, along with the impression of rectangular buckle 1939,1010.11.
