Gold sword upper guard-plate, attached directly to the base of pommel 1939,1010.19 by three gold rivets. Two rivets have collars of beaded gold wire, and the third a plain gold hemispherical head. The guard-plate consists of an elongated oval of thin beaten gold, with central slot for the sword tang.
