Mug; porcelain; painted in the centre with a man (possibly a cleric) in a long blue coat, his left hand outstretched above the dated inscription KIRKHAM 1787; either side are the initials WC and, below, MD painted in black in a cursive script; either side of the handle is a flower spray painted in colours; grooved strap handle; slightly buish glaze.

- Numerous tears to paste inside mug. Possibly for communal use.
William Clayton of Kirkham, Gentleman and Doctor of Physick, is referred to in documents dating between 1766 and 1794 in Liverpool Record Office (Hillis 2011, p. 510).
