- Curator's comments
- The figure of Fame is portrayed as a winged angel, bareheaded and scantily draped, blowing a trumpet, and paired with Mercury, a youth wearing a round helmet, tunic, cloak and winged sandals, standing with money-bag in his upright hand and holding a caduceus, for an example of an earlier model of Mercury, see 1936,0715.60. The model is identified by Haslem and Bemrose as No. 302, 'Fame and Mercury'.
