Cabinet cup and cover; porcelain; angular handle; fluted sides; raised oval medallion in front with raised horizontal ribbon round middle of cup; narrow stem and flared foot; medallion with delicately painted portrait bust of man with badge, partly obscured, and pendant ribbon in red; raised ribbon has blue ground and grotesques and putti-heads in manganese, with beading above; fluting painted in purple and white; gilded frame to medallion and gilded detail in places; cover with fluted sides and gilded knop in form of circular wreath with ribbon; cover substantially repaired; foot repaired with segment broken off; no marks.

- The portrait on this Marcolini period (1774-1814) cabinet cup is of Augustus III, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland, in Polish costume, ca. 1737, the painting after Louis de Silvestre(1675-1760), examples of which are in the collection of Muzeum Narodowe, Krakow, and Lviv National Art Gallery, Ukraine.
A cup of similar design with portraits of Henri IV and Maximilien de Béthune, duc de Sully, was sold at Sotheby's, London, 17 January 2019, lot 27.
