Figure of lady rider; hard-paste porcelain; oval base; dappled horse with orange saddle-cloth, left forefoot raised, supported by stump; rider in green habit with flowered skirt trimmed with gold, wears black hat and sits side-saddle to left; marked.

In 1921, Hans Christ attributed a group of figures from the Ludwigsburg factory to the 'Master of the Apolloleuchter', Johann Göz (1732-62), in his 'Ludwigsburger Porzellanfiguren', Stuttgart, 1921, p. 9. The Museum figure was also attributed to this modeller by Mechthild Landenberger in 1959, and the attribution was upheld by Landenberger and Peter Lahnstein in 1978, although with reservations. The lady rider displays a more individual style of modelling than other figures by Göz, who was apparently of Polish origin, and worked at the Ludwigsburg porcelain factory between 1760 and his death in 1762. The shallow concave base strewn with applied flowers suggests an early date of manufacture.
No other example of this figure is recorded.
