The De Baye Collection 3626 to 3718 below, 1922,0601 series
Provenances given at the start of each of the appropriate geographical sections of this collection, at nos. 3626, 3637 and 3656 below
Purchased from Baron Joseph de Baye; Siberian material that formed a major part of the collection is in the Department of Oriental Antiquities
Provenance nos. 3637 to 3655 from Muranok, Shigony raj., Kuybyshev obl. (formerly Simbirsk), Russia, from a Mordvinian cemetery excavated by V.N. Polivanov c. 1895 and briefly reported in Polivanov 1890 and 1896. A ?14th century Islamic silver coin of the Golden Horde was registered with the collection (as reg. no. 1922,6 1,80), splitting a sequence of brooches in two. The Register does not indicate whether the coin and the first two brooches are directly associated or not. The coin has been transferred to the Department of Coins and Medals.
A small collection from the same site, of similar objects, was presented by Baron de Baye to the Musée des Antiquités Nationales, St. Germain en Laye, in 1911 (see MAN 1989, p. 30)
