Curator's comments
Text fro Dawson 2007: This lavishly decorated dessert plate is one of the most unusual and attractive pieces in the British Museum collection. It is painted with flowers and fruit in shaped panels and with a series of richly gilt butterflies on a turquoise ground enclosed by feathery gilt scrolls forming a cross. Whether it was ever used or was merely a display piece, the fruit and cut fruit are particularly appropriate. In Frank Lloyd coll. by 1910
