- Curator's comments
- The wheel and bird motifs (especially waterbirds) are common in this period and are remnants of the earlier Urnfield culture.
These buckets (Rippenzisten) appear as grave goods in Austria commonly in inhumations, possible in connection with male graves. In other areas they are common in hoards. In the cemetery of Hallstatt a large number of these buckets were found and it is now thought that they were locally produced instead of being imported from Italy.
