Circular silver seal-matrix for Newfoundland with a signature on the sides. On the back the surface is raised with a cavity for a stem. The Royal arms within the Garter, supporters, and motto on scroll. Below, in a scrolled panel with roses, thistles, and shamrock on the sides, a group with a fisherman with net kneeling before Britannia and Mercury, on the left the bows of a ship. Inscription in the exergue. Legend. London hall-marks, date-letter for 1838-9 and crowned initials.
