Comment from Kidd, Haith & Ager ‘Summary Catalogue’ (draft MS)
Unrecorded, but said to be from "the district of the Rhine and Moselle", Germany; recent research has shown that the vendor has been notoriously unreliable.
This object appears to form part of a set with 1905,0520.248 and 249, said to be from Herpes, comm. Courbillac, c. Rouillac, arr. Angoulême, dép. Charente, France; see B. Ager, 1997, “Recent re-discoveries in the Continental Early Medieval Collections of the British Museum”, in G. de Boe and F. Verhaeghe (eds.), Papers of the “Medieval Europe. Brugge 1997” Conference, vol. 10, Zellik, pp. 139-144.
