Bulbous pharmacy jar, two broad strap handles, slightly flanged rim. Buff-coloured earthenware covered outside and in with a greyish, presumed tin glaze. Decorated in manganese and relief blue with sprays of oak leaves and on each side a male figure in a tall hat. On one side the glaze has run, maring the figure. Sinuous lines around the rim and down each handle.

The figure's costume can be compared with that of a man in a Pisanello drawing of c. 1433 held in the department of Prints and Drawings, registration no. 1846,0509.143.
