Curator's comments
Manning 1985 This is a variant of the preceding form, differing only in the use of three holes for attaching the central bar to the cheekpiece; a variation which may have been intended to prevent the cheekpiece rotating on the bar if it became worn or loose. Identical cheekpieces come from Hofheim (Ritterling 1913, 169, Taf. XIX, 18 & 22).
