The major difference between this one and B7-B9 is the sharper angle at which the blade meets the socket, a feature which also appears in adzes from Cirencester (Corinium Museum), Weissenburg ('O.R.L.' BVII, Kastell 72 (1914), 42, Taf. X, 30) and Munningen ('O.R.L.' BVI, Kastell 68a (1929), 22, Taf. V, 78). It is a common feature on adzes with rectangular butts e.g. Faimingen ('O.R.L.' BVI, Kastell 66c (1929), 46, Taf. VI, 17), and other sites in Germany, and is seen very frequently in adze-hammers; there can be little doubt that this is an adze rather than a hoe and is Roman in date.
