Panel; ivory; carved; depicts Tree of Jesse; Jesse reclines at the bottom, the tree rises from his side, twelve kings sit on branches, the half-figure of Virgin and Child in mandorla at the top; traces of colour and gilding.

This plaque may be related to that on an important mid 16th C casket in VAM, 15.41-1980 which is dated 1557 and is much finer. See VAM website for details and bibliography on that casket and context, and for detail of plaque on it which relates closely to this one with Tree of Jesse as here.
