The top of the instrument has silver dials reading 0-10 and 0-100; the back of the instument, a main silver dial reading 0-1000, and a semicircular scale reading 1-10 engraved on the face of the box, with a steel index which is set freely by hand. The steel indexes of the circular dials are geared together.
