- Curator's comments
- Two other examples of this figure are recorded:
London, Victoria & Albert Museum , Schreiber Collection, (B Rackham Catalogue of the Schreiber Collection of English Porcelain, Earthenware, Enamels and Glass, vol. 1 no. 687).
Truro Museum (Cornwall, England) (illustrated in G Wills English Pottery and Porcelain, London, no date p.335).
It is likely that this model is derived from the goat which forms part of a contemporary Plymouth figure of two putti and a goat with bocage (eg B Rackham Catalogue of of the Schreiber Collection of English Porcelain, Earthenware, Enamels and Glass, vol. 1 no. 702). All three freestanding figures of the goat are approximately the same size as and are modelled facing the same direction as the goat on the larger figure group. The figure in the Truro Museum is slightly different being enamel decorated and having two flowers with leaves applied to the base (similar to the bocage of the two putti and a goat figure).
