Jewitt in 'The Wedgwoods', p. 276 mentions Flaxman's bill of 11 July 1783 for a portrait of Mr Herschel 2 guineas
There are two other portrait medallions of Herschel illustrated in Reilly and Savage 1973, p. 191-2. The incised lines on the BM example should probably haev been overlaid with white jasper as on the Wedgwood Museum example.
