- A plate from the famous service made by Worcester for the Duke of Clarence (the future William IV). The service was ordered in 1789 and cost £700. Three specimen plates were sent for the Duke of choose from, and he selected one with 'Hope and Patience'. The service was completed in 1792, and the scenes with Hope with her anchor were painted by John Pennington (see Henry Sandon, 'Flight & Barr Worcester Porcelain', p.25 for a view of other parts of the service, and his documents on pp.27-8). Each figure of Hope is of a different composition, and the service represents the outstanding British figural ceramics of the period.
