Stoneware baluster jug; pewter lid, thumb-piece; pulled lip; strap handle, scrolled handle-terminal; cobalt-blue decoration; salt-glazed; neck - applied grotesque face-mask; shoulder - wide lozenge panels, fluted bars, stamped geometric quatrefoil; lower body - fluting tapering to thick foot-ring; body frieze - architecture framing escutcheons of the seven Electorates; monograms.

Jug
with applied date 1618
Baluster jug with pulled lip and strap handle. Domed pewter lid with double-acorn thumbpiece. Salt-glazed light grey stoneware with cobalt-blue painted decoration under the glaze.
Applied around the body with a frieze of seven shields-of-arms for the Electoral College set within an arcade, each identified by initials.
The neck is applied with a grotesque lion-mask; the upper body is decorated with rectangular zones of vertical carved diaper (Kerbschnitt) and floral stamps, the lower body with vertical gadrooning.
