Tile; earthenware; part of tile cut down to rough square; red earthenware covered on the front with a creamy tin glaze; painted in deep blue and lustre with interlace panels around a shield with a diagonal inscription in Arabic; extract from Marryat sale catalogue glued to reverse.

Tim Wilson in 1989 commented that this is probably the one illustrated in Marryat 1850 and 1868,l fig.2 as from Ford, marryat and Henderson collections, though apparently further cut down since the engraving was made in Marryat. Possibly from the Hall of Justice and acquired by Ford in 1831.
