SILVER CASED VERGE WATCH WITH ALARM [OUTER CASE MISSING].
FRAME
Circular plates with four baluster pillars.
TRAIN
Gilt-brass barrel with tangent-screw set-up mounted on the potence-plate, the indicator and index-disc missing, the wheel replaced. Fusee now with chain; English stop-work. Three-wheel train, the second wheel recessed into the pillar-plate and set almost at the centre.
ESCAPEMENT
Verge escapement, the crown wheel replaced, the verge, balance, and balance cock all missing.
ALARM TRAIN
Mainspring housed in a pierced and engraved fixed barrel screwed to the potence-plate. Three-wheel train, great-wheel brass, second and contrate wheels steel. Solid steel crown wheel operates with a verge which carries the hammer. There is no stop facility.
DIAL AND HAND
Gilt-brass dial plate [brass-edge] with engraved borders on the front and back. Fixed silver champlevé chapter-ring with Roman hours I-XII surrounding a quarter circle. Rotating central disc carries a pointer for the hours and is engraved 1-12 around a quarter circle for alarm-setting. The central alarm-setting hand replaced.
CASE
Silver inner case only; pierced and engraved band of foliage and flowers. On the back, both winding-hole covers are now missing. Centre of back engraved with a seeded rose. Bezel, glass and pendant now missing. Inside the back a bell with a number cast in the back.
