Gilt copper, enamel; England, 1537
Made for Sir Edward Seymour (d. 1552), brother of Jane Seymour, Henry VIII’s third wife. When Henry died in 1547, Seymour took the role of ‘Lord Protector’ for his nephew, Edward VI, who was still too young to ascend the throne.
