Gilt-silver cloisonné disc brooch: one of pair; pairs of cracked red glass cloisons (only two remaining whole) alternate with cruciform arrangement of paired heart-shaped olivine cloisons; central flat-topped cabochon garnet; border of rectangular red glass and garnet cloisons and pearls set between each pair (two remaining); about a third of border missing; beaded wire round the base; pin missing.

Found at 'Annaba (formerly Hippo, then Bône), Algeria; from grave with nos. 1865,0518.4-5, 7-8 and 10-28; there is no direct evidence of the grave groups, but the bill of purchase (16.5.1865) differentiates the contents of "two Byzantine tombs" and this is repeated in Franks 1865; Annual Returns for 1865, p. 15, state the objects "were obtained in the country" by vendor
