- Description
-
A small gold finger-ring of very unusual form with two gem-settings, containing an emerald and a sapphire respectively. The hoop is carefully profiled with a groove at the back and two tapering mouldings at the shoulders running out into points, between which the hoop again has a slight central groove. The setting, which is integral and in line with the hoop, is rectangular, with a closed back, and contains an emerald crystal, originally pierced as a bead, that has been cut lengthways. Its surface is only slightly convex. Attached to one side of this bezel is an open-backed setting containing an egg-shaped, polished sky-blue sapphire, its narrower end closest to the hoop. The sapphire has been pierced for about half its length as part of the process of making it into a bead; this incomplete piercing does not contain a gold pin as stated by Marshall (BMC Finger-rings). The sapphire is held in place only by the gold bezel.
