- Description
-
Iron dagger, tang present; enclosed in decorated copper alloy scabbard. The front of the scabbard is bent round at each edge and parallel to each edge is a decorated zone consisting of a chevron reserved against a pointillé background and defined by triple incised lines on each side. The engraved geometric pattern is typical of the 6th and 5th centuries BC. In the centre near the top is a circle of fine punched dots above an H-shaped figure executed in the same way. The chape is racket-shaped. The terminal contains a central cross of beaded strips, and the free standing, beaded border is continued up each side of the sheath to a moulding which in front consists of three pairs of knobs set side by side. On the back are two iron suspension loops. The dagger which is much corroded, is of iron.
