Casket; one of three panels; ivory, carved in relief with St Paul conversing with Thecla, left and the Stoning of St Paul, right; the two scenes divided by a half-rounded arch: in the first scene Thecla appears behind the wall of a building, resting her head on her hand; on the right St Paul is seated and holds an open roll in both hands; in the second scene a man stands and throws a large stone, while his left hand holds the other stones in the fold of his mantle; to the right St Paul has fallen to the ground and raises a hand in self-defence; all surrounded by a border of leaves.
