- Curator's comments
- This sherd together and the others in the group come from many different vessels, but together they recreate most of the border and much of the central scene of a large lanx (J.W. Hayes Late Roman Pottery 1972, form 56). The border shows the life of Achilles, from his birth to his departure for the Trojan War. The central scene shows the moment from the Trojan War when King Priam of Troy comes to Achilles to ask for the body of Priam's son Hector, slain by Achilles.
