Pottery askos or flask in White Painted ware; hand-made elliptical body in the form of a bird, pinched together at the prominent central ridge running along the back of the vessel; the clay surface has been smoothed with a tool; narrow spout, with a swelling at the juncture with the body, flaring to a trumpet mouth at one end; arching basket handle in the middle of the back; buff clay and slip, decorated in matt brown-black paint: crudely executed lattice patterns along the back with a large ladder motif on the underside and handle, bands on the spout and inside the mouth; surface very eroded on the underside and rim of spout is chipped.

- The number '259' in blue pencil on the underside of the vessel seems to refer to the original findspot. See Bailey, Op. Ath. VI (1965), pp. 5-13 for details of the Hake-Kitchener excavations.
