Pottery: red-figure bell krater.
(a) Heracles (?), Athena, Nike and a votive tripod. In the centre Heracles (?), a youthful figure wreathed with laurel, stands to right with his left foot raised on a square block, his right hand on his hip, his left leaning against his club; at his side hangs a sword. Towards him on the right Nike flies, holding in both hands a long taenia; she is wreathed, and wears a long chiton with cross-belts(stethodesma ?), a mantle, bracelets and earrings. Behind Heracles is a votive tripod, resting on a Doric column, with necking of egg pattern. On the left Athene stands en face, but looking to right, her left hand resting on her hip, and holding upright in her right her spear; she wears a long chiton with apoptygma aegis, helmet with visor decorated with stars, and earrings; her shield (device a star in a small circle) rests on edge against the foot of the column and against her side. On the right of Nike a wreathed youth in a chlamys is seated on raised ground to left, conversing with Heracles; in his left he holds upright two spears and places his right on his right shoulder. Behind him stands a youth in chlamys and sandals, with petasos hanging at his back; his left rests on his hip, in his right he holds upright two spears.
(b) Three draped ephebi: this design is destroyed.
Late stage of good period. Purple (now faded) has been used for the taenia and ground-line. Below, sets of three maeanders separated by chequer squares.
