- Description
-
Marble part of upper back of colossal draped figure. The four fragments make up much of the upper part of the back, including some of the left shoulder and a cutting to receive the left arm.
The drapery consists of a himation, worked for the most part in shallow vertical folds. Towards the right shoulder there is part of the diagonal bunch, whose working is equally shallow. Much better is the carving of the few folds of himation which fall below the attachment for the left arm, and which would, no doubt, have been visible from the front of the statue.
At the left shoulder is part of a vertical plane surface, dressed with the claw chisel, which received the left arm.
