- Curator's comments
- This item is not mentioned in the tomb list in Excavations, 126, Tomb 291 but possibly corresponds to the 'white porcelain charm' mentioned in Myres' notebook.
For other examples of monkey or baboon amulets from Amathus, and for a broader discussion of the type, see Clerc 1991, 126-7 and passim (with refs). Clerc et al. 1976 discuss contextualised examples from the sanctuary at Kition-Kathari. Forgeau (1986, 171-6) and Lagarce (in Clerc et al. 1976, 167-74) provide useful overviews of the use and significance of Egyptianizing amulets and scarabs on Cyprus which often differ from those found in Egyptian contexts.
