Description
Attic black figure oinochoe or jug with a trefoil mouth, decorated with a heroic figural scene of a chariot and warriors; wheel-made; depressed ovoid-globular body on a ring base; concave neck and everted rim (almost completely restored); arching handle from shoulder to rim; the scene is framed within a panel: at the front, a four-horse chariot (central part missing) driven by a bearded man with a shield on his back; behind him is a Scythian archer, with pointed cap, quiver and bow; at the back of the scene are two hoplites in close combat, with another warrior entering from the right; vase repaired from fragments and much restored; surviving surfaces very worn in places.

Curator's comments
Both Excavations in Cyprus (pp. 106-7) and Gjerstad (GGAPC (p. 51)) interpret the scene as an episode from the Trojan Cycle, though it may also depict a generic heroic battle.
