- Description

Pottery: black-figured lekythos (oil-flask). Design black on a red ground, with purple and white accessories; rather worn. On the shoulder, lotus-buds inverted. Departure of warriors (?): In the centre is Eris (or Nike?) to right in the archaic running attitude, looking to left, in long chiton with border of spirals and striped himation tied at the waist; she has two pairs of wings, the upper ones recurved, the lower hanging down, unless the sleeves of her chiton are thereby meant. On the left are two beardless male figures to right, with spears; the first is nude, the other has a striped himation. On the right is a beardless male figure seated to right on an okladias, in long chiton and striped himation, holding a spear; facing him is a nude youth, holding a spear in right hand.
