Description
Body sherd (mend from two fragments) of Clazomenian black-figured pottery dinos or krater; interior reserved; exterior: black-figure decoration consisting of bird or siren in flight to left (part of left wing with blobs in added white inside small scale-like feathers, a band in added red on wing and alternating red and white feathers remaining); below it, part of hull and prow of ship sailing to right with heads of five rowers, all with red hair, facing left; white blob on prow and stripe on gunwale; below ship, back of a dolphin to left; white waves, thinly applied, covering dolphin and part of hull.

Curator's comments
The scene has been interpreted as Odysseus and the Sirens. However, as Cook points out, a single ship would not of itself extend across the space available on the pot. The sherd probably belongs to the same vase as British Museum 1900,0214.1.
