- Description
-
A Samian pottery amphora made in a compact, micaceous red-brown fabric. The jar has a small foot, concave sides, rounded shoulder and a short, cylindrical neck. On either side of the neck a loop-handle extends to the shoulder. There are two incised marks on the shoulder: one made pre-firing beside the base of one handle; the other incised post-firing in the middle. The surface of the jar is damaged in places, especially towards the foot.

- Curator's comments
- The Findspot number '55' has been scratched on the shoulder of the jar. The amphora seems to be of the same type (of the unpainted, rounder variety) as Petrie 1888 pl. 33,10, though neither the prefiring mark nor the findspot are explicitly recorded here.
