- Curator's comments
- Similar parallels of kneeling satyr vessel (BM1861,0425.35) from Kamiros in similar micaceous orange fabric also dated late 6th century BC (Higgins 1954: 55). Higgins cites parallels from Caere, Citium, Megara Hyblaea and Syracuse (Higgins 1954: 55-6; Maximova 1927: no. 70). Originally thought to be made in Rhodes (Higgins 1954: 48-9), but probably Milesian. Note Jones' NAA analysis of BM1888,0601.659 also from Naukratis, places it within his East Greek, probably Milesian group (Jones 1985: 673).
